John Lee Hooker

John Lee Hooker, the greatest of all bluesmen passed away peacefully in his sleep in the morning of June 21, 2001 at his home in the San Francisco Bay area, at the age of 83. Hooker influenced countless generations of musicians and inspired music fans around the world during his sixty year career. He was loved dearly by millions and we will all miss him greatly. We thank everyone for their kind wishes and condolences. -- The John Lee Hooker Family

John Lee Hooker doesn't just sing the blues, and he doesn't just play the blues ... he is the blues. -- Time magazine

John Lee Hooker is a supreme force in American music. Listen to Jimi Hendrix's 'Blues Child', listen to Van Morrison's phrasing, listen to nature's beat: it's keeping time with John's heart, foot and fingers. Boogie within and boogie without, but boogie until you shake off all your worries. John Lee is an ocean of inspiration. -- Carlos Santana

What more can I say, other than what has already been written?

An amazing blues musician. So laid back he was almost horizontal.

He has influenced more musicians than any other living musician.

Van Morrison was heavily influenced by John Lee Hooker and they frequently appeared on each others albums.

Even though in his eighties, he was still recording and touring right up until his death.

My first contact with Hooker was The Healer, and I was hooked.
